My car has been riding like it has no suspension lately, especially on bumps. It is extremely rough, lots of vibration -- I feel every bump from the road though I am not bouncing very much. I am assuming this would mean I need new shocks/struts as opposed to springs?

As long as the car sits correctly, no sagging or leaning to indicate worn springs, then yes shocks could be your answer. I'd bet the fronts are worn and leaking fluid.

shocks

a good way to tell if your shocks are blown is to jounce the car and watch how long it takes to stop movement. that means bounce the front end a few times up and down with your body weight and watch the movement ,after you stop bouncing it should stop movement after about 2 or 3 up and down motions. if it doesn't stop right away then the shocks are not doing their job.
