hey guys,
Well there is this 85 GN converted to 87 electronics and intake setup that I'm really interested in. The guy says he used the original 85 block and heads and put all of the 87 goodies on it. Motor has all been gone through with some aftermarket things here and there. I read that there was no difference in block or heads between the years just a difference in oil pan bolt patterns and this guy claims he was lucky it is the 20-bolt pattern. I can tell everything has been done right and reciepts are shown.
Are there any differences in the frames or any suspension parts of any kind in the earlier GN's? He said he boxed the rear control arms. How do make sure it's a real GN? What kind of rims did the 85 GN's come with? Since the conversion was done would this make the car worth less since it's not original, even though it's better than original? Are there any things that can go wrong when doing the swap that I should know about? To me everything seems to add up good. When I went there and he took me for a test drive he had the downpipe off, the exhaust was exiting right out the back of the turbo. Could this be harmful in any way?
I really want to buy a GN and this car seems like a good project car for me. Here's what it needs: paint(it's in prime but the body is completely rust free), non a/c heater box and the necessary parts to get heat going, a hood, and the exhaust finished(it only has a downpipe). I just need to make sure I'm getting a good deal and I'm not in for more than I bargained. Let me know what you think
thanks
dan
