I'm need to know where the 3rd and 4th gear shift solenoids are located in the trans. Will I be able to see them after I pull the pan? They are either faulty are unplugged, as DS says I'm in 3rd and 4th gear all the time. Any help is appreciated.

What you have is an electrical problem... The trans shifts hydraulically, so there are no solenoids as such (There is a torque converter lockup solenoid/device inside the pan near one front corner- not your problem). If you pull the pan, you should be able to see two switches sticking out of the valve body; the wires attached to them go to the plug on the side of the tranny.

Before dropping the pan, I'd read up on the logic, and test the electronics to be sure they are responding properly to the switches' signals. (You may be able to do this by grounding or ungrounding a certain contact on the plug, but I haven't the foggiest idea whch one does what; indiscriminate grounding may fry something).

Answer provided on the theory that small help may be better than none:) .

I unplugged the connector at the trans and grounded the 3rd/4th leads going to the ECM and both indicators went out on Direct Scan. I now know it's in the trans. I gotta change the trans fluid when I do the spring cleaning, so I will look to see if there plugged in. Some friends from another BB said this situation was not a big deal and no performance is lost nor is there any detrimental effects.

Worst it can be is a couple of switches... until Spring your calibrated blue jeans should tell close enough what gear you're in :D .
