My wifes Turbo Beetle had a check engine light, and the dealer said it was a bad Cat Converter, so they put in a new one for free under warranty. After getting the car back seems like there is more heat coming from under the car and the engine compartment, also a burning smell. Is the car about to burst into flames  or could this be the new Cat 'break-in smell'? Thanks!

Cats don't go bad on their own. It's usually excessive hydrocarbons (unburned fuel from running rich). The dealer needs to find the root cause of the problem. Sounds like this one is going to go the same route as the original converter, they don't like gas and that's why it's heating up. Take it back. HTH.
