Just had the motor and tranny completely rebuilt. picked the car up yesterday and the car is a pooch! The motor was bored .30 over and replace cam and lifters with roller set up. The car has NO low end! I am new to the Grand National community, after much reading I thought a fresh rebuild was the place to start. Well it's fresh, NOW WHAT?????lol need some insight if anyone has any. Any opinion on what my next step should be is much appreciated.:wtf: Thanks

A good place to start would be to list ALL your mods, so the guru's have good info to help you with.
Did you go from a stock cam to a Big Cam,How big is the new cam ?
Give as much info as possible about how + when it is doggie,is it just off the line,is tranny kicking down like it should,How much boost etc. the more info the better.
Was the person /people that did the work, someone that is very familiar with these cars, not just a good mechanic ,but Turbo Regal experienced ?

The car has had new exhaust put on it ( no converter ). The only mod on the car is the replacement of the can with a roller can and lifters. Car is horrible off the line, runs very smooth but has very little get up and go. The transmission is stock but completely rebuilt. The shop that did the rebuild would be a far cry away from familiar with Grand Nationals but is a very reputable business. In the Omaha area, have not had any luck finding anyone who knows these cars.

They are asking about the torque converter not the cat

Still need more info
What cam did you put ???
Too big of a cam is going to affect your low end power, especially if the person selecting it doesn't know anything about turbo buick motors,
did he put a turbo buick specific cam or just a bigger cam, these cars don't need big cams .
Certain exhaust pieces can effect low end power also, like the wrong headers can kill spool up,Notably hookers,+ i've heard that flowmaster mufflers can hurt power also. What exhaust parts were changed.
Try to give more specifics to help the experts help you." List all your mods."
It could probably use a good tune also.
If you don't have a scanmaster you should get one + learn how to read it so you can give the guru's the info from it.

Also, I feel these cars needed a looser converter from the factory, but with a bigger turbo or cam they definetly do.
Post says you are new to turbo buicks, have you driven other ones for comparison, because these cars are known for being soft on power until the boost hits, It's the dreaded turbo lag, unless modified to get the boost in early or a looser converter or both to get it into it's powerband.
Most likely a higher stall converter is going to help no matter what, but there may be other things contributing to the problem.

good luck,

Ps, when TT/Ameasap asked above, what converter,he meant Torque Converter, not Cat Converter.

Your describing what my car runs like when the turbo is not boosting

always always list your mods in your sig. Also I was taught from Brian Weaver to always make sure to do ALL the essentials before going to do engine work. If you do it all at the same time good. But dont expect huge results if you open up one end and not the other, and vice versa.

Examples, which is what I did

You need first

Hot wire your pump and get a good fuel pump. Without a strong fuel source you are not pumping enough "blood"
Larger injectors are nice, but not totally necessary if you want to pull and not roast tires if you know what I mean.
Fuel Pressure Reg (adjustable) This way you can adjust your pressure as you build up the engine with mods
Hot air cars love air, so cold air intake of some sort. I made my own for less than 75$ and it even has the 9" K&N in front of the rad supt.
Ported throttle body. I decided to do this so when I wanted to step up with a larger turbo it was done. Not totally necessary but I am looking forward
I ported my exhaust elbow to let the exhaust flow better
You need to figure out a way to get the air in and get the air out. Without this...even with stock turbo it is not working as well as it could
Scan Master. You need one to see what your 02 counts, IAC, etc are running. Without being able to set your IAC, TPS you could be lagging from wrong settings
Exhaust leaks kill boost, make sure you have no exhaust leaks
Adjustable wastegate
A TT chip if you plan on eliminating EGR, bigger injectors, etc.
Ported inlet bell, I did this for future plans to open everything up later on

If you can find some headers, I know they are hard to find, but will help tremendously. A down pipe, again hard to find will also help greatly.

So now you have the engine "air pump" ready to bring air in, turbo spins up the air, the exhaust flows out and you are ready to talk to the engine.

Bigger cam, ported intake, ported heads, alky, larger turbo, larger stall converter all makes the air flow work for your engine. If you dont take the time to do these things you can expect some results, yes... but if you want it to pump air you need to make sure there are no kinks in the hose
