Well I am getting a Buick very soon, and was just wondering what would be some basic things to do to the car to get it up and running its strongest i.e. spark plug (brand?) wires, basically simple tune up stuff.

Also what are somethings to look for down the road? I want the car to be quick (low 12's maybe lower we'll see) but daily drivable and doing so safely (no extensive motor/tranny wear not running race gas 24/7) I am ready to learn and just came from the world of DSM's so I am very familiar with turbo cars and I also came from the world of IROC's even though I still own 1. Looking forward to Buick power!

A very good starting place is to read EVERYTHING on www.gnttype.org After that, if you still have any questions, do a search on this board and you should find plenty of answers...I'm sure that pretty much everything has already been asked at least once...

Check out the section on gnttype about what to look for when buying a GN/TR...It will help you out a lot and maybe keep you from buying a complete basketcase...

already found a car that passes the buyers guide specs, just wanting to know what would be a good start for tune up and anything else that is a must have for turbo buicks.

run a search on the above mentioned board an that should be a good starting place.

My fault...I should have mentioned the spring cleaning section... Here's a link for that... http://www.gnttype.org/maint/basics.html

As an addition to that page...I'm not sure if it's mentioned, just glanced at it real quick, but stay away from any brand of platinum spark plugs...These motors just don't like them...Also, a lot of people have had really good luck with NGK UR5 spark plugs, in addition to the AC Delco CR43TS or the CR42TS plugs that are mentioned there...

As for tuning and such...Take a look here http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/recipes/recipepage.html Look at them all and just start out with the basics and work your way up...Start slow and change one thing at a time...You'd be real suprised to find out just how little you really need to do to get these cars(86/87 GN/TRs) in the 12s for not a whole lot of $$$....

#1 mod -- Scanmaster -- 0 HP gain, but hey, be safe. I blew my head gaskets within a month racing a Viper  Just don't go crazy with it till you get a good sense for how she works and you've memorized the engine bay;)
