I'm considering putting nitrous on my 45K original motor. If I would run a 50 shot what boost and fuel pressure should I be at? Also If I decided to pill it up to a 75 shot whould it be worth it?

I have only ran the car at the track once. My times are below. I'm looking to bring a little more out of it. What would be my best bet? Any suggestions would help I'm new with this nitrous stuff.

I would also like some details of n20 on our cars. I know nitrous on lt1's really good. I was wondering what it would take to run a 50 shot on my car. And also what boost levels (still have the stock turbo on and don't plan on putting the 49 on any time soon). Would the stock injectors still be able to handle the extra power? I had the stock 24lb ones on my t/a and was running a 150 shot on top of 340 RWHP. Thanks

I wish I could give more details about how the spray works on my Dads car, but we only touched it off twice. 50 wet went from 15 to 20 psi like now. Even the lazy VDO gauge jumped so fast it looked like switch was thrown. At a 45 mph roll in third it boiled the 255-50-16's till it got squirley and I let off. The next time the bottle was low so it sputtered a little and we haven't used it since.

I am swapping my SMC to his car in trade for his Nitrous this spring, he's not really a race gas kind of guy and I just want my GN for play so I'm gonna give it hell.

I have all but the mas (thanks Nocooler!) for the swap so check back in mid June or so for some results.

If using a wet shot, I don't think the injector size should matter - assuming you had enough injector without the NOS. Last year after 5 test passes w/o NOS to dial in the tune, a 50 shot gave me .7 sec and 8 mph! It did increase the boost from 24# to 26# during the run. Make sure the car is in good tune, use the best gas you can get, and watch the knock.

nitrous level

i'm running stock hot air motor with 16lbs boost and a 150 shot on race gas,... running low 13s with this set up. i don't really care about this motor though. i thought it would go before the end of last race season. but it surprisingly ran strong and still does. I'm almost through with my new one. Going with alky with this one though.

Your only running a low 13 with a 150 shot. What's up with that? Where are you injecting the NOS? What rpm's are you turning the NOS on and off at? 150 shot is a lot. Before I blew my turbo I was spraying a 50 shot and the back 2 cylinders where starting to lean out pretty good. My goal was to run a 100 shot this summer with 18 degrees of timing I'am working on getting the base tune down when it gets above 20 degrees outside. So you only must be running 6psi of boost without the NOS. Just wondering before I start working my way up with the jets.

Why not a malibu or a buick wagon:eek:

150 shot  I didn't know these engines can take that with boost. I ran that on my lt1. I'm planning on only going with a 50 shot if I do it. If I could run a 100 shot on mine that would make me more then happy. So does the boost only go up about 2 psi usually? What rpm are you guys starting to spray at? 2500? 3000? I will probaly go with another window switch if I go the nitrous route. Anyone wanna trade a ta-49 for a n2o kit???:D

150 shot

i didn't think my engine would take it either but i lost the 100 shot jet so i thought i'd try it. i' m injecting it right into my turbo housing. and so far so good With nitrous i'm boosting up to 18lbs i think the plugs look good no signs of running lean. If i don't go with alky i might go with a two stage nitrous set up 50 shot to get me off the line then another 100 shot later.

i'm having serious traction issues so thats why i'm only running 13's, my 60 foot times are awful. my volvo only has lim slip dana 35 and i'm afraid of slicks (kaboom!) i'm trying to find a good 9" housing to build for my car. (plus this engine has about 100k mi on it also)

I have a new engine and trans sitting in my garage But i'm stumped on where to go with it..I'm pretty new to this turbo thing i've been a camaro guy for a long time and i got tired of getting beat by these buicks so i got this car with the engine trans and wiring harness already installed from this guy i know that fabricates anything and wholla! a volvo/gn that runs 13.04 - 13.30 ets. should run mid 12's

any help from you buick heads will be much appreciated.

A Volvo wagon with GN Turbo drive train?

 That is freakin great and original! I may have to give up my FAMLY KAR license plate and mail it to you.

Nice grocery getter for your wife too..........Oh well :)

spray rpm

i don't really pay attention to the tac, i should but i hit the button after i get rolling so i don't lose traction i'm guessing between 1900 and 2200 rpm don't do what i do because i don't think its good for the engine..

Best run... was

et 13.070 mph 107.62 60 foot 2.200

worst:

et 14.200 mph 101.00 60 foot 2.304

average

et 13.40 mph104 60 foot 2.1

Thats somthing you don't see on the street everyday. What plugs re you running with the 150 shot? Is it a stock chip in the car? Notchback I set my window switch at 2200 to 5600 rpm. My converter stalls at 2100 so I like to keep it 100 rpm above stall. I also use a window switch and a WOT switch. Sorry for all the ? wagon but I think that is sweet that your running a 150 shot. I figure my engine is mostly stock (internals) I don't see way I couldn't run a 150, but I will tune from the 50 I'am at and up in 25hp increments.

swithches

i have a hot wire switch that i push and hold through the whole run... which i know isn't the smartest thing but it has worked for me .... but as i said in the previous post i don't care about this engine i have a brandy new one in the garage that i'm finishing up now.

i run stock plugs , injectors, chip , regulator etc... it just has held up well i dont know why... i do run race gas and octane booster
and change the plugs monthly and the o2 sensor when ever it starts to crap out on me. i have a big inlet cold air intake and that has helped.. other than that i don't know.

I wish i had more answers for you i'm new to the turbo thing and am learning as i go.... i was normally aspirated in my camaro but got tired of being beat up on by the buicks. so i bought this one as is from a friend who built it.

oh yeah one tip i have found. buy a o2 sensor with a lifetime warranty and bring it back every time it takes a crap on ya. thats what i do... buy it from a chain store like schucks or napa and bring it back to different stores every once and a while.

Wagon, sweet ride.........where are located, I'd like to see your car at the track sometime.

Burnout, we have similar setups....I may be asking for some tuning advise come spring.

Do you run at Milan?

Yeah I do run at miland at least once a month. My Dads friends rent the track and it's like 60 bucks to race and you get as many passes as you want. I don't know if miland is going to let the public rent the track anymore because their putting a million dollars into the track and there going to hold bigger events. I also go to test and tune to. We race alot on the weekend in River rough on Jefferson. How far are you away from Lincoln Park. Just keep me posted on what going on with your set-up and I will do the same. I'am in the process as we speek getting things together. Wagon what engine are you going to but in it?
