Took the car to work today and on the way home I noticed it wouldn't shift out of 1st till ~3500-4K rpm then it would shift to 3rd (and 4th above 45mph). Doing some searching it looks like it could be an anchor pin or something. I am guessing the trans needs to come out to fix it. There is probably 30K hard miles since the last rebuild (was supposed to be built for street/strip) so I don't know if I need to go all out or just have it freshend?

Any ideas?

Possibly a TV/ThrottleValve or Governor problem, binding/sticking.
Check your TV Cable adjustment.
Engine off, give the TV Cable a pull & let it snap back a dozen or so times. May free up or clear any trash in the Valve.

Band Anchor Pin would cause a 2nd gear slip, 2-3 bind, no 2nd gear etc..

SSedan64 is right. I would likely check TV cable first. If this is not it, I would think about check and/or replacing Governor. Changing the Governor does require dropping the pan. You have had the tranny rebuilt before, but the Governor is 25 yrs old. Now that I think about it, so is the TV cable. Most likely it is the Governor. PTS, Art Carr, and other vendors are local to you in Cali. You should be running back right soon!

After I reread His Post, it does say 1st to 3rd shift, no 2nd. :o
so most likely a Band, Servo, Anchor Pin problem.
