Tue vs. Wed
As far as I know Tues is for street tires and Wed is for Slicks. What I really want to find out is if ET Streets will be allowed on WED. If not I would be willing to switch to true slicks to avoid the import invasion on Tues nights. I would rather run with real racers than some kid with a 5" tailpipe on a weedeater.
Corvette Tragedy.
I was not there, but according to the Post-Dispatch article, the guy was an experienced Super Gas racer. Saturday was a NHRA points meet @GIR and a lot of big time guys were there. Apparently, the guy, forgive me for forgetting his name, was on a qualifying pass and something happened to him or his car on the top end. He went through the traps at over 150m.p.h. and never got out of it. He went W.O.T. through the shut down area, then the sand trap, then the catch fence, over the embankment at the far end and then up and over the perimeter fence into the canal. The car, I believe, landed upside down in the canal. According to the paper, it's about 1 mile from the starting line to the canal. A friend of mine was there and said he couldn't see far enough to see the very end, but he told me the guy didn't pull his chute and he never saw a brake light.
I don't know if you are familiar with Super Gas racing or not but it is very intense. Racers run on a 9.90 index. This man's last pass was a 9.87 qualifying run. Most of these cars would run low to mid 9's so they run electronic delay boxes to slow them down. The E.T.s are consistant but the M.P.H. is very high on the top end. If this guy was full throttle all the way through the sand trap, he could have been approaching at least 180.
It was a true tragedy, and I sincerely hope it doesn't happen again for a long time. I heard from someone that you are more likely to get killed on the way to the track towing your car on a trailer than you are making a pass.
If I have any of the story wrong, please feel free to correct me. I only know what I read and what my buddy told me.
I offer my condolences and the best of luck to the family.
