oil and water temp gauges

I have a mechanical oil pressure gauge I want to install on my 85 GN. I do believe the sensor is right above the oil filter. Can I just unplug the stock sensor and screw in my mechanical oil gauge line and leave the sensor for the dummy light not hooked up? Also, how would I go about tapping in for my water temp gauge. Would I just splice into the sensor right in the front of the intake?

For the water, I unscrewed the factory idiot light sensor and the aftermarket screws right it. It's the one that faces toward the front of the car, not the one that faces up.

Don't know about the mechanical guage. I assume you could tap in just like the electric guages in the factory sending unit location like you said.

I personally wouldn't install a mechanical gauge in my car. If the hose starts to leak, you could have a mess. Oil sensor is above the oil filter. I just left mine unhooked. If you get a problem with the fuel pump not running after that, there is two wires that have to be jump together. That sensor will disable the fuel pump, not sure if mine did or not. -Nick.

That sensor is also a switch that acts as a backup to the fuel pump circuit. As long as your fuel pump relay is good you will have no problems. Once it sees oil pressure, the switch closes so even if your fuel pump relay fails, the switch will complete the circuit. It's not needed but it's a nice backup. I've been running without mine for 10 years. I don't know if you want to try jumpering the wires since it might make the pump run all the time.

Just get some brass fittings and "t" in --- this way you will have both the back up switch and the mechanical pressure gage
