Oil Flow

Question is oil flow. Does the oil flow from the cooler to filter then through the motor or through the filter then the cooler and back to the motor?

I think it goes to cooler then filter. I say this because when you trash an engine the oil cooler gets full of metal shavings. Make sense to me?? I wouldnt put $$ on it tho.
