Parallel and Series?

Okay I need just a little info on this...I have always just basically hooked up the positive to + and negative to -
Been reading for about 3 hours now and I learned that the door speakers and dash speakers are like component? I don't know how to hook up series and parallel...tell me the difference as far as the actual wiring of such...

I feel kinda stupid now...LOL!
