Picked up a Colt All American First Edition, opinions?

Picked up this 9mm in a trade this weekend, aluminum frame walnut grips, only 3000 made, new in box never fired or loaded, all the paperwork including the letter from Colt, and the stamped envelope to send the gun survey back to them. From what I've read online this was Colt's flop that was supposed to bring them back from the brink of bankruptcy. Wasn't a hit with military or police, only lasted two or three years. Was an odd ball I hadn't seen before so I decided to take a chance on it, anyone have any insight or opinions on this piece? Thanks for any info! Joe

Love it or hate it, it's a part of Colt's history. Good for a collection. As far as shooting it - meh I wouldn't bother.

It was designed by Eugene Stoner and Reed Knight. They sold the design to Colt's to manufacture, and when it bombed they took product in trade for the design. In fact if you visit the Knights Armament Museum in Florida at their plant and look at some of the old original Colt Armalite AR15s that are in the collection, you'll see they're marked "Colt's Gun Room".
