Piston to cylinder wall clearance

Hi there, Not clear on this, stock bore motor, piston measures 3.796 at skirt bottom, set micrometer in vice zero bore gauge to this number, I come up with .0035/.004 difference. Do I divide this by two to get my clearance? .00175/.002.
Or is the clearance .0035/.004? If it is the latter would this survive a stock rebuild, or explode?

clearance is bore diameter minus piston diameter , old days used a long feeler gauge with piston in bore

for stock the specs at bottom of piston are .0013-.0035
