I bought a PTE PT61 a about 2 months ago and it's still in the plastic bag and has never been mounted. I took it out of the trunk today to test fit some locking nuts on the studs and noticed small holes around the compressor housing. I stuck a toothpick in them and they don't appear to go all the way through, but is this normal? Is this a casting problem and I should send the turbo back? It almost looks like there were some air bubbles in the casting and when they popped, it left little holes. I would appreciate any information that someone could provide.

That housing looks horrible! Yuck! Pits and blemishes everywhere! Take it off and polish it. It will look way better when you are showing your engine to your homies.

The pictures don't really illustrate what it actually looks like because of the flash. These are not just on the surface but 2 or 3 of them are actual holes in the casting. I wouldn't care if it was just pitted on the surface, but it is an actual hole, but it doesn't seem to go all the way through.

Those are just casting blemishes, imperfections. Nothing to worry about. But if the holes go all the way through, that would be completly different. But otherwise you'll be fine.
