porting LT1 MAF is it worth it!!!

is it worth porting an LT1 MAF, anybody done this to thier mafs, and what gains can you expect from doing this mod.

By porting do you mean removing the screen and blending the screen lip or do you mean removing the airfoil?

Removing the screen and smoothing the inside and not increasing the throat area will allow the sensor to be used with the normal calibrations. Removing the airfoil will require the fuel be richened to avoid dangerously leaning out the car.

Contact Bob Bailey as I'm sure he has a way to compensate for a missing airfoil.
 
I've read many ways to port the original TR MAF & even did it on mine. Mine finally died & I went to the LT1 with Translator. I haven't messed with the LT1, as it works better than my original.

Now for the negative response. My son ported his VW VR6 MAF & managed to kill it. Another at the dealer is only $375.
 
The LT1 is the 3inch one right ? Well anyway the 3inch maf i ported , removed the airfoil and took off both screens . Picked up like .05 mph But had no problems other than the idle being worse . No computer changes either . For winter i threw the stock 3innh on .
