I was wondering..

My car has the stock stereo in it, and the power antenna works great as is. I'm planning on putting in a new head unit, but never really heard anything about, nor though to question, the functionality of the antenna with a new head unit.

Is there any special procedure I need to do to get the power antenna to work with the new head unit? It comes on only when the radio is turned on. I've never seen the back of the stock head unit to see where or how it's connected. Anyone have any info or know how to go about this? Please share!

Matt:

In my old N/A Regal, I upgraded the stereo and got a kit from Crutchfield. It came with a plug adaptor for the antenna plug (the antenna plug itself is a small plug with a metal pin).

Not sure where you're buying from, but you can probably buy an adaptor if the stereo itself won't accept the plug.

You definitely want to buy an adapter plug. You can get them at Walmart even. One of the leads in the car's plug has the trigger lead for the power antenna in it. On your after-market stereo the wire is usually blue with a white stripe if I recall correctly. On mine the antenna goes up when I listen to the radio and back down when I switch to CD.

Spend the 30 minutes soldering the adapter onto the stereo wires and simply plug it in to the car.

I'll look into that adapter. My cousin is a certified car audio installer (actually had his own business until his partner caused it to fall on its face), so I'll have him help out most likely. I just havent been able to get in touch with him yet. Thanks for the help guys!

All you need to do is wire up the blue wire (power antenna out) out of the aftermarket radio and hook it up to the pink of the black molex of the car. But its allways easier to use a wiring hardness adapter. If you need the color codes reply back, if you're planning to not use a hardness.
