I had my tranny rebuilt about 4-5 months ago. It never shifted right under WOT. It would kinda slip into gear. Under normal driving, it would catch second and go into the other gears just fine. One morning, on the way to work, it was cold out and I wanted to see what power gains a 25 degree morning would give me so I floored it in second gear. Very strong and no ill effects. When I went to show some guys at work what my car could do, it would just kinda slide into second gear, but kick into 3rd and 4th kinda like a shift kit would. This was after I got off work BTW. Now under any moderate acceleration ( 5" vacuum to a few psi boost ) it slips into second gear and hits very firm in the upper gears except when I am turning a corner or something. When I turn it sometimes feels like it wants to catch second gear. Could this be a pressure problem? A new 10 vane pump was installed during my rebuild, but it seems as if the tranny isn't building enough pressure to make firm shifts under WOT. Also, I have to lift off the gas to get the tranny to shift into 4th. If I don't, it doesn't shift until about 4,000 rpms ( under normal driving ). I've tried to tv cable numerous times with no success. Any suggestions?

Try overfilling trans by 1/2 to 1 quart , if that doesn`t help do a line press. of hot & cold - min & max TV write down the pressures someone here will help ya.

I forgot to add that during the rebuild the guy drilled out some holes a bit larger to act as a shift kit. He ended up drilling two of the holes too large. When you drive the car kinda hard the shifts firm up some, but when you first get going with it in the morning or whenever, the shift from first to second is very long and seems to slip very badly. The tranny is an 85 turbo regal BQ code. It doesn't have the 86-87 servo or any kind of upgrade servo. I had the tranny rebuilt once before by AAMCO and it would catch second very hard under WOT, so I know it isn't capable of not being able to shift hard when it should. Any suggestions at all?

Couple of things...

Ck 2nd gear accumulator spring. See if it is broken. Also I will bet if thats ok the band anchor hole is oblonged. very common. Also servo could be too small for power level. If GN servo (86-87) was in there I wouldnt even consider, this, but if real small , could pose problem.
