I was going to do that with the new PPG egg shell black. I wish I would of sometime. I'am in the process of wetsanding and buffing my car now after a long summer of paint and body work. But one thing to remember is your not going to get the same looks as you would with nice paint.

paint

jerrad,
I was told by many people with vast experience with paint and body work not to use just the primer as it holds moisture but to use a flat black and it will look the same as the dark black primer but it will offer way more protection. Plus from what i have personally seen the primer itself gets chalky looking really quick

oh cool thanks. i was wondering saleen do you put a clear coat on flat black? thanks again jerrad

dont use primer it doesnt have UV protection and will get chalky its also very porous and the car will rust fast. If you want that look use any brand of basecoat black I really only know PPG paints because thats what I paint but if you wanna do this use PPG 1683 basecoat and use DBC500 color blender to seal it, it goes on like clearcoat but dries dull like the look you want.

You can make your own mix of flat and clear. Just mix some clear in with the black. If you use base coat black you won't get the look you want. I just sprayed my friends nova with the PPG egg shell black and it looked pretty good if that's the look you want. If you look at it this way by the time you disassemble the car and tape it all up why not just go base coat clear and be done with it.
