If ,I had a bad pump would it do this? I was adjusting it up to see if it would go up it came up slow then shot up to 80 pds and died tried it a few times slow but got there and started idling bad and would die just trying to figure out if my pump is going out on me so anyone?

You are likely bottoming out the spring in the FPR. Basically the spring is going into coil bind which closes off the return port and the fuel pressure goes to the maximum pressure the pump can provide.

The bad idling is from being too rich from the excess fuel pressure. The engine dying could be caused by being excessively rich or the injectors locking up and can't open against the excess pressure.

One way (but dangerous) to check a fuel pump is to turn up the pressure to the same level that will be seen at maximum boost. Open the return line and direct it to a container. Run the pump for exactly one minute.

No need to have the engine running, although the pump voltage will be lower then when the engine is running. A battery charger can help in this regard.

Now measure the fuel in the container in volume by gallons or mass by pounds. Multiply by 60 for the volume or mass per hour.

The least dangerous way to test the fuel pump is via a fuel pressure transducer and data logging it. Ease into boost and check that the fuel pressure rises 1:1 above the vacuum line off setting to boost psi. If the FPR is set to 40 psi line off, then at 12 psi of boost the fuel pressure needs to be 40 + 12 = 52 psi.

The only way to determine if your pump is good or bad is to drive the car at boost ,while watching a gauge, and determine if the fuel pressure rises one to one with boost up from the base fuel pressure (line off). If it rises one to one, there isn't a problem with your pump, regulator,or filter. If it doesn't keep up you can proceed with some diagnostics.
