I was reading some past posts and found the post below.

http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/ho...or-pix-tech.html?highlight=Which+Electric+Fan

The posts talks about some 85 HA came with the V8 radiator, and mine is one of them based on the pictures in the post. If this is true do I still need a F Body radiator? Could I purchase dual fans and mount them on my current radiator?
Can I leave the shroud to maintain a stock look and take off the stock clutch fan?

Thanks
Kyle Cook

The answer to your question of installing dual fans and keeping the shroud is no IMO. I have the F-BODY and the dual fans with the Caspers relay and they work great. Never above 170. Last summer with the F-Body rad and the stock 87 fan on a 98 degree day the engine went to 225. The shroud is there to enhance the mechanical fan. One idea would be to install a reverse pusher fan on ac condener blowing through your stock v8 radiator and keep the mechanical fan and shroud. You would be limited on size of oil cooler/trans cooler but you would keep the stock look. Caspers sells a kit which converts 84/84 to the 86/87 electric fan setup. It is a very easy install. Let me know if you want a PIC of a hot air with the dual fans installed on a hot air(I do know how to do it here-anybody send me a PM and clue me in). I even had the vacuum sticker duplicated (Turbobuick2) because you lose it when you drop the shroud. Brad

I have the wire kit coming and an 87 style fan. If the fan dosent work out I can always sell it and upgrade to the dual fan set up

Here are a few pics of my F-Body radiator w/Camero fans. Sorry they are camera phone pics.

Part #

Getting ready to buy an F-Body radiator myself. Is the correct one the Modine #951? Thanks in advance

I know it helps keep the stock look with the fan shroud, but your just better off from a hassle and efficiency standpoint if you shelf the shroud when you do the electric fan upgrade. you can always return it back to the way it was. Think of it as a conveniant place to stand when you detail your engine compt. :D
my 3 cents

I have never tried taking off the clutch fan is it like everything else on a 23 year old car (hard as hell to get off)

I have a factory 87 radiator and a stock 87 fan, and I have not seen above 170° even at the top of the track. I ran my old HA set up with an unshrouded 2800cfm electric fan from Summit and I had the V6 radiator, no cooling issues at all.

tap it lightly with a mallet as you turn it. then grab as close to the base and pull to you hurt yourself:D Sometimes you can work a screwdriver in there and pry it.

That has actually already crossed my mind. I was looking at all the pictures and couldnt believe how much extra space there seems to be just by removing the shroud and fan

Kyle- If you go the F-Body rad route you will have to go to the bone yard and get an 87 Cutlass V8 radiator hold down plate. It is a direct bolt on. Save your stock shroud just in case somebody wants to go back. Turbobuick2 hooked me up for a reproduction vacuum diagram. I will send PICS via e-mail until someone helps me post PICS here. Good luck. Brad
