What do I check or replace on this fan issue that I'm having? New temperature switch (On drivers side area) New caspers pigtails for the high and low relays all color coated and sodered professionally. Checked the high and low ac switches? And the main power switch for the radiator fan itself? Stays on the high speed at all times only shuts off when the high relay is unplugged? It's like it's getting power all the time? Also new high and low relays as well? Would could be causing it to run all the time like that? And what do I need to do to solve the issue? Also is it okay for the radiator fan to run all the time or not? Thanks.:)

First step is to try removing the wire from the new coolant fan high speed temp. switch drivers side, single green wire yellow stripe.

It won't hurt to run it high speed if you have to get somewhere for a week or two, car will just think it's midsummer and hot out.

Might run a little cooler that's all.

Make sure the coolant fan delay relay is unplugged both connectors too.

Another test would be to disconnect the plug completely from the A/C pressure switch and see if it stops with the car idling in the driveway.

Last thing you can do is trace that green wire with yellow stripe back to the new high speed relay connector and disconnect it there at the new splice, that should kill the high speed operation.

If it does and none of the switches are the culprit in the tests I laid out to do before hand you have a short to ground on that wire somewhere in the harness.

May have narrowed it down?

The only way the (LOW SPEED) of the radiator fan shuts off is only when the low speed relay is unplugged from the pigtail? Or the fan plug itself? Called caspers today and they said to try and unplug the temperature sensor located under the throttle body (the one prong deal) and plug it back in that did not work? So I've narrowed it down to being something with the low speed relay area? HELP!! What do I do now? Thanks.:)

From your first post, " Stays on the high speed at all times only shuts off when the high relay is unplugged? "

So now it's the low speed not turning off?

If so you need to unplug somehow the green wire from the low speed relay feed which is C1 pin D2 at the ECM.

Also, again unplug the A/C 3 wire pressure switch located behind the alternator and A/C compressor that would cause low speed to go on as well if the pressure is too high.

Start by unplugging the A/C pressure switch first and see if the low speed operation goes off.

If not leave it unplugged, and either pull the pin out of the ECM harness, or disconnect your new splice at the low speed relay, the solid green wire and see if the fan stops.

So if I disconnect from the computer?

If I disconnect from the computer will the high speed fan still come on when the car is running and gets to the certain temp to turn it on? And what plug is it for the computer the bigger one or the smaller one? Do I unplug that wire or do I have to cut it? Thanks.:)

Yes the high speed "should" work with the temp. switch, you can easily try it by sticking a needle into the insulation of the green wires to the relay and grounding the needle with a wire to a good ground, either relay should activate and run it's respective fan with the key "on" car wouldn't have to be started even.

My suggestions were simply TESTS not how you should run the car, I would rather run on low speed all the time than try to rely on the high speed coming on with the low speed disconnected all the time that isn't smart.

You need to find the problem first then work on a solution.

I would disconnect the splice (green wire) at the low speed relay and make sure it shuts off AFTER doing the A/C switch plug removal.

Hooray!!!!

Thanks for all your help salvage. I have conqured this fan problem!!!!! Called caspers today and spoke with John and he said to swap a different chip in the computer and see if the fan does not come on. Sure enough had my old Red Armstrong 93 chip laying around and put it in and guess what? NO LOW SPEED FAN ON!!!!!! but I have to get a stock one to put back in there because the red chip makes it run lean at idle and my blm's skyrocket. By the way the chip that was in there was not a stock chip like I was told it was a Pitbull chip dated with 1990 on it:eek: So the chip program must have been burnt to run the low speed fan at all times when the car was running. Thanks so much for keeping in touch on this salvage very much apprecaited.:) By the way anyone know where I can get a new stock chip for my 87? Thanks.

One thing I didn't mention, most software people suck. :p

You need a Turbo Tweak chip even if you have stock injectors, I can't read your signature while typing this reply, regardless..... get that Turbo Tweak street chip.

That's the only chip I'd run other than the translator extender stuff if needed for the Chevy MAF stuff.

A good chip is very important as you just found out. ;)

No driveability issues with a TT chip.
