Ok, I was putting my new sticky shoes and drums on my buick. When testing the brake, low and behold, me mr. scott forgot to put the passenger side drum back on. Well, the little metal contraption shot out of the cylinder ripping the rubber and letting out brake fluid. Now I know it needs to be replace but how is it done? I took the brake line off of it and the huge bolt above it. I dont see anything else holding it. Is it part of the complete disk thats behind the hub? Maybe you all can help me here. And any tips on procedure for removal and installation would be helpful. These drums were fairly easy! Until I pulled that no-no.

Thanks

Scott:(

No biggie. The brake backing plate mounts the wheel cylinder (the thing w/the metal contraption in it). You COULD clean up all of the stuff that flew out and stuff it back in and just replace the torn piece (dust boot), and rebleed the brakes. Or replace the cylinder which can be a bit challenging for some folks. Should you decide to replace the cylinder - buy them both - less than $15 each and once you see the new one and the metal ring clip, removing the old one should be a bit more self explanatory. Have fun!

also, if you're replacing the cylinders, might as well go for the bigger ones, they're for a 1985 S-10 manual trans. You'll be able to hold more boost at the line. :D
