Rearend Housing

Which vehicles have the same Rear end Housings as my 87 GN?
Mine is rusted bad and, during the resto. Project I was thinking of replacing it with a clean one. Internally everything is fine I would just like to replace the housing.

Mid to late 80s Olds 442s had the 8.5" rearend.Im not sure if all of them did or just some.I think if you start pricing 8.5"rears you might decide to restore the one you have.If yours is rusty try a wire wheel or blast it if possible,it should clean up alright.If its just surface rust onthe backing plates those should cleanup too.If your trailing arms are real crusty just replace them and the bushings.A little elbow grease and paint can save you alot of $.

Wire wheel it the best you can and paint it with POR 15. WOW what a difference. I did a bunch of stuff on my GN and what an inprovement, made my rear drums look brand new, and it holds up too. Makes rustoleum painted things look bad. I think it comes in different colors now. Tarey D.
