Chasing a miss at idle and inadvertently found that if I disconnect the TPS sensor the miss 100% goes away. Idle also rises to where it should be- around 900. So does this imply the car is running rich or lean?

What chip do you have that would set the idle at 900?? Most are no where near that high

Have you made any measurements on the TPS to check for correct setting. How about IAC readings. If you're just adjusting things on the throttle body without a scan tool, you've likely got the settings all whacked. Especially if you're trying to adjust idle rpm (there's NO provision to mechanically adjust idle rpm).

To add to what Dave said ...

Disconnecting the TPS probably just threw a code and the ECM is compensating with a bogus value for the TPS.

It's really important to have the min. air settings (IAC) and TPS right ...

Using the stock chip. Although other chips yield similar results. I guess 900 is a little high but I always thought most GN's idle in park at around 800 - 900. Mine at idle in park with the TPS connected is missing at idle and rpms are around 600 -650. Dump it in gear and they fall to 575 - 625. I know this is low. IAC is around 15-20 in park. TPS is at .42.

I just found it strange that the miss completely goes away when the TPS is disconnected. I was almost convinced before this that there was a mechanical problem (worn cam, head gasket), but know it would appear that it is electrical (computer, etc). I've already updated the grounds. Swapped every bolt on electrical component from the TTA onto the GN except crank sensor with no improvement. Any ideas?

Had a problem similar to yours as far as idle RPMs was concerned but when I adjusted the IAC correctly as stated by Ken the idle RPMs dropped to where it supposed to be for a Thrasher which is 700 - 750 RPMs. The miss that I had was a defective injector. The miss went away when I changed out the injectors.
Hope that helps.
