ring orientation?

Rings?

If you mean piston rings, it doesn't matter, they move after the engine is run. The Buick "Power Source" admits this, and says just for good measure, to put the top and second ring 180 degrees apart, at the front and back. I've never checked them on an engine that' been run, usually don't take one apart, unless it's broken, but it would be interesting to hear from someone who kept records.
