Looking for some info for the th-325 trans (fwd). Is this the same trans for the turbo cars? I am restoring my 83 Riviera and was wondering how much power can these things handle? I want to swap in a turbo 3.8 but I am looking to mod it fairly heavily but do not want any problems with the transmission. No one seems to know much about these around here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What engine does your 83 have now, and what are your plans? There are just a few turbo Riviera people on the boards here, and mostly are on the hot air forum, and general Buick tech forum, so info on the Rivs turbo or not is somewhat scarce. The TH325 ( speed) and TH325-4L (4 speed) autos are very similar to same year Regal (year to year)transmissions , big difference is the chain drive and bolted on differential.

Right now it has the 307 4BBL. I am looking for something in the 400hp range for this car. I noticed one of the members modded his Turbo Riv but he keeps breaking axles. He is using slicks though which is probably most of the problem. I am not going to race this car but I know I am going to want to hit it every now and then and for the time being, it will be my daily driver. I will post my original question in the forums you mentioned and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I was hoping to send whatever engine out soon to begin rebuilding. Thank you for replying.

The main difference between a TH325 and the 200 4R is the TH325 turns in an opposite direction. It is the same layout basically as the 200 4R, but all internal major hard parts are different. I am not aware of anyone that builds H/P parts for them, although I wouldn't be suprised if there was.
