you set clearance ( lash) on solid lifters not hydraulic lifter
hydraulic stock lifter there shouldnt be any lash , you need to set preload around .030 though it really doesnt matter if its more or little less as long as there is preload
for proper preload using an adjustable pushrod with cam at base adjust rod until there is zero lash , then add to the length the desired amount of preload.
on adjustable checker 1 turn = .050" so from zero lash measurement spin tip out about 1/2-3/4 turn and that new length is what length you need for pushrods
