I just got my car back from the shop and it was running great for about 2 weeks then it started to over heat. So i checked if it hat low coolant or air bubbles but those things where fine. So i changed out the thermostat and the car was back to normal for a week ran at no hoter than 160-170 crusing and 170-180 when i got on it. Just to day the car started to act up again, It has the same symptoms as before. Temp raises to 220+ for about 2 mins and then drops back down to 160 for 3-4 mins then back up to 220+. It keep doing this back and forth. This is the same thing it did before i changed the themostat. So my question is it the thermostat again or is something else making the thermostat go bad fast. Is it something else all together. Raidiator is stock, sotck intercooler, and stock fan. The car was in the shop to replace the cam. I never had heating issues before this. please help.

Sounds like the fan relays may have a problem. If they die, the only thing left to run the fan is the high temp sensor (top/front/driver's side of intake) and it kicks the fan on at about 220 or so.
 
No, i doubt that bill anderson would do somthing like. Plus if he did beat on it why would it over heat a 2 weeks later and then stop for a week after i change the thermostat.

It could possibly be the water pump impeller slipping. I have only seen this happen once but it is possible. Did you try to let it idle (fast)with the cap off the radiator and see what the flow looks like when it starts to heat up?
 
with the cap off the coolant will rise till you hit 160 then it drops. The gauge im reading it off is the scan master but i also have a water temp gauge. The scan master shows 220+ bute the water temp goes to about 190 and stops. I would think that the scanmaster would be more accurate.
 
You aren't by chance using a VDO temp gauge are you? I'm unfortunate enough to have one, and mine does similar antics, very high readings, some normal, etc.
When checking the Scanmaster temp readings however, they are all perfectly normal.

VDO gauges have no internal compensation circuitry for voltage stability like other high end units. This causes them to be extremely susceptible to variations in supply voltage.
