All you fast (11.5 and faster) guys out there, are you running any faster w/ the dump open. Im going to buy a 3" DP and want to know if i should spend the extra 50 on the dump option. Does TSM allow the dump to be open. Thanks
Rich
For what is in my car, I should run low 11's without trying, I just can't drive
I'm running a ATR Dual 3 as well. I don't think the dump has any effect other than sounding cool. I've never run faster with it off, in fact, about 1-2 mph slower, but it sure sounds cool spooling up...if you like attention then get the dump...
the dump is easily worth 2-3 tenths on my car.....both in the restriction area and turbo spool......the faster the car, the more difference it seems to make (my exhaust is 2.5"Hooker)
Woody, That's two to three tenths and two to three mph, right? I have the Hooker too, and I promise to uncap it when I go to the track. Thanks for the heads-up!
Theoretically, an open dump is always faster, because it imposes less pressure drop than does a full exhaust.
In practice, it may or may not be, particularly for cars with exhaust systems having very little pressure drop. For such cases you're probably down to comparing 2 states of tune, not a pound or 2 or 3 at the turbo. The differences can and do result in the corked up car being quicker/faster now and then, but NEVER, EVER on paper...
Depends on what type of cat back you are running. I have some POS 2.5" cat back with dual "turbo" mufflers. I see close to a .2 gain when I unhook it and run just the open downpipe.
I've got two friends that are both running ATR's 2.5" true dual exhaust (running 11.70's - 12.40's) and they've seen no change in ET going from full exhaust to open dump.
No faster running through full exhaust as opposed to opening dump. It is an advantage for me to hear my car running over those other cars that have to have 2 more pistons to even come close.
