I should be receiving my new scanmaster in a couple of days. Just trying to get an idea on how to hook it up before I get it.
Thanks

I suggest picking up the following at RadioShack: Velcro, pin connectors, 1/4 spade, and an open mouth crimp on. The 1/4 spade goes to the red wire and into any IGN slot on the fuse box, the pin connector goes to the green wire and into the ALDL connector, and finally the open mouth crimp on goes to the black wire and onto any grounded bolt you can find. The Velcro is to mount it where you want.

Better than the pin connector for data would be a .125 male spade. Perfect fit for the aldl connection.

So, best connectors; 1 - .250 male spade for power(red wire), 1 - .125 male spade for data(green wire) (I always thought it was white), 1 - ring or open ring(black wire) for connecting to ground.

Other option I use for a "portable" scanmaster is to use one of the cigarette lighter adapters at radio shack. This covers ground and power. All you need to do is plug the ALDL and the cigarette lighter plug and you're in business and can remove quickly...

I didn't want to use velcro on my dash so I used a black carpeted dash cover and stuffed it underneath. Hard to see from outside, has enough shade to be seen in the sun and isn't going to leave any velcro damage when removed...

Aldl

Did research.

Thanks for the post, was looking for spade size. I don't have anything that small, the cigaret lighter is another good idea. Really looking forward to getting mine hooked up. Thinking i'm going to use double sided sticky tape, I have no plans of removing once in but I don't want to damage the dash.

I took a old cell phone charger with the curly cord took the guts out of the cig lighter end and soldered the hot and gd wires inside the adapter then got a small spade to put in the aldl plug some felcro and put it on the dash above the speedometer . very simple set up .

Thankd turbodave

I just popped my radio out, tapped the power and ground (yellow and black on the power plug), the ran the white wire to the backside of the aldl.

It's not a hard wiring job.

Put it in your line of vision so you can check it quickly. You don't want to be taking your eyes off the road or track at 100 mph to look for it down low.
