I have been chasing this condition for a LONG time so maybe someone on here has an idea.
I am crusing along at a steady speed of about 35-45 mph on a smooth road. The Scanmaster reads O2 volts as usual, all over the place. It bounces from mid 700's to mid 100's which I know is normal at cruise. The knock will sit at 0.0 then still just crusing along, it will show 7.0 12.0 .7 9.0 3.0 15.0 .4, etc. Just all over the place. It will eventually stop after about 15 seconds and go back to 0.0. Then later it will do it all over again.
The only thing I have noticed is that it doesn't seem to do this until after the engine reaches normal temp. I have a knock sensor and it flashes also so I believe the knock sensor is actually sending a detected knock signal.
It did this before the last engine rebuild and still does so I'm pretty sure it isn't something internal knocking.
I assume it could be something rattling that the knock sensor is picking up but I have looked all over. But why then would it come in spurts. Or when you go over a rough road it doesn't start acting up.
ANyone got any ideas?
