Scanmster not working

Well i just got my new scanmaster and hooked it up...Pretty simple...I thought! Well I put the red wire on the 10amp ignition fuse, black on a ground, and the white I spliced into the orange wire coming from the ALDL. When I turn the key to run the 2.1 comes on and after a couple seconds it goes off then nothing. If I turn the car on still nothing. NOW, I am running without a chip, would this have anything to do with it? Also, if it's not the chip where should I look? Is the orange wire still orange way back at the ecm? Cause maybe it is cut somewhere along the line

When you say no chip, do you mean no aftermarket chip or none whatsoever ??? I know when I left my ECM unplugged, the SM wouldnt work, so I'd think with no chip, there'd be no data for the SM to get...I have mine tapped into the port itself to Pin E, second from left on the top

Searched high and low and finally found that stock 86 chip I had laying around. Put it in and now the scanmaster works. Thanks! (and yes...I had NO chip in, waiting for one from someone)
