Official: FBI probing Pa. school webcam spy case - Yahoo! News

I guess this school district gives their students laptops to use for homework? Its been awhile since I was in school and wasnt sure about this.

Teachers were turning on webcams (from school) and watching students while they were at home. They claim it was to find "stolen/lost" laptops.

I guess they signed a peice of paper when they got the computer from the school, stating that the school could do this.

One kid was even accused of selling drugs because the teacher watched him set down a handfull of MIKE AND IKE candies, lol.

They are talking "child pornography" , because what if the kid was walking around their room naked or doing OTHER stuff ;) ---

I am not sure what I think of this. I mean if the kids AND parents signed the consent for informing of the remote viewing then that is one thing. But if only the child signed the form then that is something else.

Somebody is going to lose some money. I would be surprised if the agents involved have not confiscated all the computers at the school that were used to monitor the laptops. All an underage student would have to do is walk past the camera naked while someone was watching. Yep, they may be looking at jail time. There is so much in the dmca, don't assume you can do something to a computer and not go to prison for it. If it affects CPU cycles (even on a router) or disrupts anything on a network, there is potential for action against a person. There are other technologies that can locate a stolen laptop without the use of cameras or microphones.
