Shifters?

Iv herd alot of things about shifter cables and iv herd some people say it's the same and some say its not so was wondering if anyone knows is the shifter cable for a 3 speed the same as for a 4 speed in a g body car? If not and you use a 3 speed shifter cable dose that mean it will work fine other then then the shifter won't reach down to 1st gear?

nagative they are not the same lenght at all tried instaling one that was acidentaly sold me me insted of right cable it wont work at all
