I'm at 20lbs of boost and 1.0 degree of knock in 4th on the scanmaster. SMC controller is at max. Should I go any higher?

Thanks,

James

I would say tune for 0 knock myself, anything is too much. If you're just getting a degree or so on the 3-4 shift you may be alright, but if you're hard in the boost at that shift point, you're probably doin' 115 mph or so
Not knowing your setup, I'd say you're fine. If you're on the stock turbo you may be running out of it's efficiency range (like I do at 21 psi or so). I wouldn't push it much further if that's the case.

The most knock you get is 1 thru the gears? If so,keep going up a lb. at a time. Just keep going until until you see a steady knock at aout 4 or 5 degrees. That's what i'd do,and do and do and do!!! The only thing that seems to break are valve springs. That's my engine, not saying that will happen to you. But,remember the higher you go-you need to pay more attention. GOOD LUCK.

Yes, now that I think about it 1 degree is all my scanmaster records. Maybe I can chance another 1 or 2 lbs. Yes, this is a stock turbo so I probably won't go any higher than that. I love ALKY :) The Power Plate seemed to cut that # down too.

James, I'd pass on the performance runs using 4th gear. Just 1,2,and 3. You're going to end up breaking your transmission.

Sorry, I was in 3rd gear. It was in D not OD. Yes, I found out the hard way about racing in OD. :(

1° on the 2-3 shift is nothing. A steady 1° toward the top of 3rd gear probably isn't much to worry about either. With the stock turbo (like me) I've read that up to 4° is "okay". Once you're running a 70 series and making 600 hp though, 4° is most certainly NOT okay. Watch yourself though, I've got a post in here about what happened when I cranked it up another 1.5 psi (from 20-21 psi). Went from no knock to 6° or so in pretty short order. Once you leave that turbo's efficiency range, bring on the HOT AIR. I've got polished heads and a ported turbo, so I think I flow a little better. Just be careful and "sneak up" on that max boost number. Good luck man! Lemme know when you run it, sounds like we have similar setups, and DS is givin' me 300hp and 400 ft-lbs at the wheels at 20.x PSI. Slow by TR standards, but DAMN FAST by normal car standards
