Quick Question. My cell-phone charging port jack has corrosion that's jumping the power and I need to clean it off. Couldn't get it with a dental pick. What to use? Is there a product I could look for tomorrow? Would vinegar work? I could live with calling it the douchy old phone, if I could turn it back on and use it!

No insurance, so it's fix it, or buy another...

Iso. or denatured alky. and the dental pick with a single layer of paper towel.

If it doesn't dissolve with that electronics spray from Radio Shack might work but probably not.

You probably need to wipe the surface of the contact with something, the paper towel with alky. could work for that.

Keep it away from any plastic finished surfaces and don't drench the thing. :D

Yes, denatured alky. And a stiff bristled tooth brush dipped in it. Shake off the excess alky and scrub the port a few times. Make sure to blow the port out real good with some comressed air (no more than 60 psi).

DO NOT USE DENTAL PICKS OR OTHER HARD OBJECTS. Perfect way to damage the fragile pins.

How'd your charge port get corroded? Toddler spit? Sweat? Rain? You can bet it's making it's way into the phone circuits.

Sorry, I was almost sure there was some sarcasm involved in JDGN's suggestion!

Yeah, it musta started with toddler spit. Thankfully not enough to toast the mic.

First thing this morning I followed my instinct of vinegar being a light acid that would fix it and tried it out on a nasty penny first. It worked great, so I took the phone apart and since the port is on the very bottom I soaked that bit in vinegar for about 6min. Then I slowly and repeatedly dipped it in iso alcohol to dilute the vinegar off. Then lightly picked away the remaining film and redipped it clean. Blew it out and reassembled. Working fine in all respects again!

Thanx for the input tho. Just wasn't in time. I'd already tried iso-alcohol alone without success.
