im thinking of making my own alky kit. a friend of mine has been running one exactly like the one stevemon on this board has for quite a while. his works very well and he uses the coolant bottle for a alky resevoir which i like. the only reason i want to make my own is b/c it is far cheaper and seems to work just as well. i know the SMC kit has more bell and whistles but does any of that stuff really matter? is it worth the $200 difference? i like the in car control of the SMC kit but you can also set a homemade kit up like you want and leave it alone cant you? basically my question is, is the $200 price difference between a SMC kit and a homemade one worth it if i plan on running 11's? thanks:)

My kit started life as a Jay Carter kit, but now the only thing left from the kit is the check valve, braided line and pump. I like the DIY kit. I am using the o/f bowl as an alky tank, and it holds more then a gallon. IMO the tank is too small on the SMC tank and the controller is way too large. The SMC controller does offer very nice adjustability though.

Go ahead and try stevemon's kit. By going the DIY route you really learn about how the system works and how to tune it.

I agree with blackbuick87 - and I also started w/ the Jay Carter kit... I now have a different pump, and use the rad overflow for alchy, and the jay carter tank for rad overflow. It's been a pain getting the alchy setup right, but I learned a lot, and have a bigger tank than the SMC.
there are plenty of people here to help you build a custom kit yourself

Here is what I did on my Mustang. It cost me $150 for everything including an extra solenoid for a future second nozzle.

I am pleading the Fifth amendment. In all honesty, I havent dynoed or ran the car at a track yet. It is just a weekend cruiser. I guarantee that my 1/4 times wont be in the ball park with you guys, but you knew that.:D
