I always heard how good using Clay Bar was but none of my cars ever felt that bad to the touch to try it. They all are pretty smooth. Well the 86 GN I picked up recently felt like sand paper when you ran your hand over the paint! The paint looked great just felt like sand paper. I always was scared of taking something like puddy and running it all over the paint. I picked up the Meguiars detail clay kit...

All I can say is WOW. I'm sold. The car feels like a baby's ass now. Silky smooth. I then took some Meguiars swirl X over the car on the orbital buffer and it came out like glass. I could not believe the difference. The clay was black when I was done with it. I can't wait to see how the car looks in the sunlight but in the garage lights (and I have a lot of them) it looks good. I'll snap some pics

Even my pos looks alright if I go and put the effort into clay baring it :D

JD you ever coming to philly or what? :P

A buddy of mine just recently bought a $4500 car for his daughters first car. He cleaned it up and did the clay bar treatment to it. It was a dramatic improvement. His daughter changed her mind and wanted a smaller car, so he put it up for sale on his driveway. The first guy to show up offered $1000 more than what he paid. True story.

I just bought a clay bar in may, and tried it for the first time on my GS, as an experiment, before it touches my gn, and I was like WOAH!!! WHAT THE HELL WAS I WAITING FOR????? I wish I had found out about this years ago. Though, it does nothing for the swirl marks, depth, or brilliance, it sure does make it feel smoother though. On a black car, that has only minor impurities stuck in the clear, I'd just do the swirl remover/glaze/wax deal and call it a day.
Now on my white car? MAN it makes a HELL of a difference with overall cleanliness and brilliance. My clay takes stuff off and out of the clearcoat, that NO car wash, no matter how thorough it is, can take out. Minor rubs, stains, the whole 9 yards.
In all, this stuff is a godsend to EXTRAORDINARILY OCD people like myself. Now that I've found it, I'm not sure I can live without it.
If you guys haven't tried claying your car, I HIGHLY suggest you go out, and spend the measly 15 bucks, and do one panel. I bet you after you're done, you'll be soo hooked, that you won't even realize that you've just spent the next 2 hours on the rest of the panels. It's really addicting.

I was the same way. I always wanted to try it but I was scared to take anything like that to the paint! I'm sure glad I did and I'm hooked! I can't wait to test it out on the daily driver as well! I ran the orbitual buffer all over the car today and snapped a few pics. I think I got that black glass look I wanted!

Here is a pic of the trunk deck and that is the light on the ceiling in my garage....

clay bar results

Jim,

Was viewing your pictures of your garage light reflecting on your paint and didn't understand why there were so many specs in the paint.............. Then I realized how dirty my monitor screen was!!!!!!!!!!! My car is waiting your arrival. Let me know when you are available.

Same thing here, finally decided to stop being lazy and picked one up about 2 weeks ago. Used it on my 96 Cobra and i could not believe it! The car had been painted and just had that thick feeling when you ran your hand over it, not the thin glass-like feel that paint should have. Well the clay bar sure took care of that! Awesome stuff! I think the best part was the front bumper, took all of that crap off that had probably been on there for years that i just kept waxing into the paint.

What kind of orbital buffers are you guys using? Thats the next thing I want to get into, my daily driver GS needs it pretty bad.
