i have enuf miles on my engine to start a wot tune.so i hooked the otc 4000e up and off i go. for some reason at wot the car wont shift out of 2nd,the 1-2 is at 4500 rpm like i want it to be. at 4500 in 2nd the car just hangs in there.so i tryed to keep it at wot for a few sec. in 2nd to see if it would ever shift, all the times b4 i would just let out because it would not shift, and no dice, the tach. was just fluttering around 4500 rpm with no shift. the crazy thing is that if i give the car 98% throttle it shifts fine, its just when i put it to the mat it goofs up. i know the trans. is good, not slipping or anything. it rips 2nd, and bangs 3rd and od hard.it is a stock 87' trans. with few miles. i played with the tv a few times and did not help. it did not do this a few years ago b4 i put the new engine in it. please help:confused:

I'd say it's likely the governor has slung the spring out of itself. The governor controls WOT shifts. Mine did this with similar symptoms. If you haven't done your trans spring cleaning you're in luck. Drop the trans pan, and then drop the governor out. It's in the rear of the trans held in with 4 bolts. There should be a spring between the shaft of the governor and the smaller of the two swinging weights. If it's not there, then look back inside the rear of the trans; mine was wrapped around the the blue speedo gear. There is a procedure to prevent this happening ever again, but too lengthy to write here. Do your fluid and filter while you're in there and PLEASE put in a drain plug; you'll thank yourself later. If you need a new spring, Bruce or Don Wang can likely assist. Good Luck.

thanks John, i have not done my spring cleaning yet, so i guess im in luck.i will do it this weekend, and let you know how it goes.i really hope it is the spring.that at least sounds easy to fix. thanks again.
