Sometimes wont shift 1-2 at WOT

Sometimes my 87 GN wont shift to 2nd at WOT unless i let of the throttle. Any ideas what to do to cure this? It shifts hard, so i guess it has a shift kit. I just got this car, dont know much about whats been done to it. Basically stock!! HELP!!

Sounds like a govenor problem, either leaking or wrong one for the vb calibration. If some has changed the vb or gov. with differ one's, could cause this.

1-2 shift

My tranny was doing the same thing, the only thing I did was change the fluid and filter. It's been shifting @ wot just fine.

Use dexron III fluid only, and Fram or AC Delco filter.

Believe it or not....I was having thios problem also...changed the fluid and filter...(which I also recommend doing first}..But that didnt help...Wound up being the valve springs...car was struggling to rev to 5,000RPMs...could be it...HTH.

That is the most common. Valve springs go away. Not that many miles either....
