Sony vaio experts?

My new laptop is working great, except that near the end of the bootup a program pops up on the desktop called VAIO Startup Assitant.

I can't seem to figure out how to get rid of it.

When I say "no thanks" to close it, it takes a long time to close its self.

There's a program in the start menu by that name, but don't know what it will do if I try to delete it from there.

I can't find a program in the add/remove programs in the control panel by that name.

Any suggestions?

Nevermind, think I got it.

Found a folder; C:\program files\sony\first experience
that looked like it had the startup files for the problem file.

I changed the name of the folder from "first experience" to "old first experience" in hopes whatever was looking for the files in that folder wouldn't be able to find it.
It seems to have worked.

If it's brand new I suggest just reinstalling Windows. It'll wipe the whole HD clean of all those dumb little programs that are bundled in.

run msconfig, go to startup and uncheck what you don't want to auto start. I'm sure there are things in there.

Run this, total time may be an hour or more if it's a new pc. It yanks out all the junk your machine shipped with.

Thanks for the MSCONFIG advice. I think I found the offending start file.
I'm not so sure about going to that link though. Freeware and other things like that scare the he!! out of me. Especially on a brand new $900 machine.

This is a good program. You get to pull out all the junk that it came with. I do one of two things with every new machine I get. #1 Format and put the OS on squeaky clean, just microsoft service packs and patches. Or, #2 I run this after making the full disk backups of the system. The clean installs are for customers and the cleaned up ones are for our business. I do run 2008 server on many of my machines though, they get wiped. I support some production floors that generate 16K per minute, per floor at no less than six sites. I insist that everything be completely controlled in a known state.

I understand about running some freeware apps on your computer. Trust me, the sec admins that don't wipe their windows boxes will be running this to clean it up.

Funny, I am toggling between between tb.com and fedex, waiting for my new HP loaded with it's new i7 proc, to be delivered. I usually do AMD but this was on sale for $1200 was $1800. Yes, I will be running decrapifier on it after making the backup disks.
