What is the purpose of lubricating the speedo cable? Is that to prevent it from jumping around and to make it move smoothly? Thanks

Imagine a wire turning inside a tube at high speed.
Just like those found on a weedwacker..
It needs lube to reduce metal to metal contact

Just don't overlube it. If it comes out the top it can jizz up the speedo display.
