Speedometer inaccuracy

Is it true all gn speedos are innaccurate? Mine reads 55 mph at 45 mph and have a stock tire diameter. I am a bit OCD about speedo accuract and have replaced speedo gears in my Nova when I changed gears and in my wrangler when I went to 32" tires.

Did GM put the wrong speedo gear in our cars? Or would I be wasting my time changing mine?

What colour speedometer gear do you have installed?
Also, what colour governor gear?
Both of these can be changed to get your speedometer reading more accurately.
For a 3.42 gear you need an orange governor gear (11 tooth) and a blue (30 tooth) speedometer gear. This is what the factory supplied.

You can also use a combination of different coloured gears to get you the same ratio.
