I understand that oil soaked rags 'can' bust into flames and such.

I am considering putting some rubber-backed 'carpet' on my garage floor under the GN. I will probably put a piece of plywood or cardboard under the rear main for the one or two drops a month that it drops.

Is there a concern that oily wood or cardboard can combust?

I wouldn't worry about it.

The concept of oil soaked rags starting a fire involes rapid oxidation which creates enough localized heat to reach ignition temperature.

If you put a heap of oil soaked rags in a metal bucket, then pump O2 into the bucket, you would have a good chance for a fire.

A small amount of oil exposed to air and not concentrated in a confined area or not applying extra O2 would have a tough time spontaneously combusting.
