Stageright gear selector cutting......

I got the kit in yesterday and today I was going to cut the gear selector pulled the console and got to thinking ....My button in the shifter never was there or worked So do I need to cut the selector right?

I just found out that the cutout is so the shifter will stop in D3 when pushed out of 1st "transbreak".....I'll cut it and get the piece I need in the shifter handle this weekend....
