I have a fairly stock motor, with stock turbo, and rebuilt 200r4.

It has the original d5 conv, and I was planning on upgrading the turbo very soon, but just recently my buddy picked up a 3000 stall conv that I'm buying off him for use w/ the new turbo, and I was wondering if I should wait till i have the new turbo on to install the conv, or can I put it on with the stock turbo and drive it for a bit, then install the new turbo (not sure if that will effect my driving ability, cause I don't understand tq converters too well)

thanks

Wait till you turbo it

or else you are going to build a lot of heat and with no effeciency. Slip[ping it that much will hurt your power not help it. You want it to the ground. That is the object. Also, gas mileage would go to hell, not that we care ;)

depending on the converter design the converter may either improve or reduce performance in this situation.2800 to 3000 stall lockups make a street killer out of a stock engine turbo combo and the computers control of the lock up makes the down sides of an unlocked converter not part of this discussion.
