Anyone know where I can find an online pdf from the Buick manual on the exploded view of the upper steering column guts for a 87 GN?

Thanks ...I've got that one....was hoping to find a Buick parts manual exploded view to see the assembly of the dimmer/wiper switch

Having trouble remembering how the new switch (already in housing on right) connects to the dimmer switch rod (on left) (2nd pic)
.
I think the plastic piece in 1st pic has something to do with it but cant remember.

Note to self...always buy two identical cars so you can have one for reference when working on the other.

The curved end goes against the dimmer rod, the fat end in the housing. The grease ( or some Vaseline) helps hold that piece in the housing while you're trying to fit back down on the column.

Thanks Dwayen...I would have never figured that one out!

No this spring popped out from somewhere...geesh!

Hi,
That's the spring backing the key warning contacts, and will be installed after you have the ignition lock back in,before you screw down the turn signal switch. It fits to the back side of the contact assembly, and the lock cylinder and it's retaining screw must be installed first. Slide the contacts in WITH THE KEY IN THE RUN POSITION. Good luck, pretty simple once you do a few.

Ok...I'm a little lost here (as usual). I have got the key cylinder, retaining screw, and whatever the white plastic/copper contact in place. Where does the black spring in my last post go in relation to the key cylinder - turn signal plastic switch?

Pull the white plastic piece back out. The black spring clips to the bottom of it and then both go back into the column as 1 piece.

Thanks guys...that got it. I made a pic of the contact mated with the spring for future reference for dunces like me.

Hooked power back up - good blinkers, good hi-lo, wiper control turns freely (that was the original problem - wiper switch would not turn freely) and no wipers except for when I flip the washer lever. Man, I need to get a service manual. Wonder if the module on the motor could be the culprit this time?
