Let's say I had a TA49 turbo with 42.5 injectors and wanted to upgrade to a slightly larger turbo without having to make major mods. to the tranny. what would be a good choice?

how fast is the car now?how fast do you want to go?what is done to the trans now?

Stick with the TA49, it’s a good street turbo that can be spooled on the stock torque converter. Anything larger you are going to have a noticeable increase in turbo lag. Unless you have money to burn, keep the TA49 and spend the money else where.

I'd say, Razor's alky, sticky tires, and go deep into the twelves. Work on your tuning and launch at this level, before you wind the rubber band up any tighter. Enjoy the journey. Don't race to get to the end.:)

Happy spooling.

I was in the same boat, but I did my tranny and got a new convertor. I was looking at a 5857 from Full Throttle. Has the potential to make about 50-60 more horse than a 49 and still works with a stock convertor. I am staying with my 49 for now. I want to see what the convertor gets me. I have been told it will hit like a sledgehammer compared to the stock d5.
