hi,

my tranny developed what i think is a very unsual problem tonight.here is the situation.the car will drive normal in second, drive and overdrive.it has a stage right transbrake so first gear is the brake.

if you shift the trans into nuetral it acts like the transbrake is aplied.if you shift it into reverse it acts the same way.what is real suprising to me is that it also acts like its on the brake even in park.even with all this wrong ,if i place it in drive i can make a flawless pass with the car.any ideas tranny experts?this is the first time ive heard of this.

many thanks,nick

Sounds like it needs to comeout and be looked at. How is the fluid?

UPDATE

hi again,
i removed the tranny today and disassembled it.i had another known good case with all the clutches, plates ,and band replaced.
i swaped in my governor, valve body and front pump.intalled the trans .after a brief warm up the trans seems to be cured and then after a test drive the same problem appeared to come back.
drives fine in drive or overdrive .nuetral, reverse and park function as if a tranny break is on.i strongly feel it is in the valve body. please give me some feedback.i really could use some educated opinions.

also.if anyone has a diagram of the valve body could use please email it to me?
thanks,nick

UPDATE #2

Hi again,

today i put in another BRF valve body i had.this was a completely stock unit.the transmision still had the exact same problem.
it drives normal in drive and OD.when in nuetral it still is in foward gear.reverse acts like a trans brake.and park acts like a foward gear (but the park mechanism stops it from moving),my theory now is that the sprag in the converter is broken and will not release.does this sound logical to anyone?the converter is the only reused part from the origional problem.

thanks,nick

Its sounds like the forward clutches are either burnt and welded together or you have a major leak somewhere causing them to stay applied, When you put hte other valve body in, did you put the stock manual valve or the transbrake valve back in?
If yo put in hte t0brake valve swap it for an original andd try it,

otto,
im begining to think you are right.the convertor checks out ok.basically,i am done with the 200r4.i am upgrading many things so i think it is time to go to a three speed.thanks very much for your help.
nick,

Same here i am selling my billet 2004r and going to a 400. I am going to a stage motor now so i want the reliability of a 400
